Dr Allan Ellis
Chair, ACE Community Colleges
Allan’s involvement in various education sectors spans over 50 years and includes primary, secondary, university, TAFE, adult and community education, professional development and online programs. His last full-time position was at Southern Cross University, where he held the position of Associate Professor and Director of Research and Research Training in the School of Commerce and Management. Allan holds four degrees and five post-graduate diplomas in various areas of learning facilitation: School Education, Continuing and Adult Education, Special Education, Distance Education and Professional Education.
In the 1970s, Allan was instrumental in establishing and running the North Regional Evening College, the forerunner of ACE Community Colleges. Currently he is also the Chair of RED Inc, a Lismore-based disability support organisation, and the Chair of a small start-up company pioneering the development of a closed-loop, regenerative agribusiness model to farm and market high-grade Australian Manuka honey. Allan is a Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD).
At the Conference: Allan’s interest is in optimising the performance of Boards and Management Committees that operate in the community sector. Good governance is about creating the culture of the organisation, plotting its future (not minding the shop) and ensuring that the organisation complies with its legal and constitutional requirements.
