Dr Matthew Bach
The Eastern Metropolitan Region is Matt’s community, where he has lived, worked, worshiped, played sport, and volunteered.
Matt is passionate about education. Prior to entering Parliament, he was the Deputy Principal and Head of the Senior School at Ivanhoe Girls’ Grammar School, where he also taught English and History. Prior to this he was a senior leader, Board member, and teacher of History and Politics at Carey Baptist Grammar School.
During the Baillieu Government, Matt worked as an advisor to Mary Wooldridge, then Minister for Community Services, Mental Health and Women’s Affairs and was the lead advisor on numerous successful policies and reforms. These included the establishment of schools in youth justice facilities, the implementation of a whole-of-government action plan to prevent violence against women, and a significant reform of child protection to protect vulnerable kids from violence and abuse.
Matt has a Bachelor of Arts, with Honours in Politics, and a PhD in History from the University of Melbourne, where he has also taught classes in History. His new book “Combating London’s Criminal Class” was published in 2020 in London.
