TAFE South Australia (SA) is facing a crisis after an ASQA audit resulted in a decision to suspend 10 qualifications from the scope of registration of TAFE SA from 23 January 2018.
The Adelaide Advertiser (11 January 2018) reports that:
“The crisis engulfing TAFE SA could affect hundreds more students and further undermine public confidence because people now enrolling in courses still under a cloud have no guarantee they meet set standards.
“The national skills auditor has refused to give TAFE SA written agreement that students currently enrolling in courses facing sanctions can complete their studies with the embattled public institution.”
The crisis has a number of reverberations, including delays to the new South Australian Naval Shipbuilding College, Defence Connect reports: “The TAFE scandal has delayed the announcement of the successful tenderer until we are satisfied TAFE can deliver the courses we require," Minister for Defence Industry Christopher Pyne said.
According to The Australian, the “significant reputational damage” of the “SA training scandal could mean delays to the start of hundreds of courses as the state government organisation insists on internal and external audits of what is being taught in more than 1300 programs to 70,000 students.”
