The Australian Government announced a review of the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF), which is expected to be completed in 2019.
The review will be undertaken in two stages. In the first stage, the department engaged PhillipsKPA to undertake contextual research related to international qualifications frameworks and domestic use of the AQF by stakeholders. PhillipsKPA’s research, and stakeholder feedback obtained through it, has informed development of terms of reference for the review. The final report is now available on the department’s website.
Stage two of the review involves appointment of an expert reference panel. The Minister for Education and Training, Senator the Hon Simon Birmingham, recently appointed four experts to the panel: Professor Peter Noonan (Victoria University, and a speaker at last year's CCA Conference) will be joined by Megan Lilly (Australian Industry Group, and a speaker at the 2016 CCA Conference), Professor Sally Kift (James Cook University) and Professor Elizabeth More AM (Australian Institute of Management). Two other panel members will be nominated by the COAG Education Council and the COAG Industry Skills Council.
In preparation for the review, the Department of Education and Training has commissioned Ithaca Group to prepare a report on credit arrangements and the role that the AQF Qualifications Pathways Policy plays in supporting student pathways. Through the survey, Ithaca Group aims to gather information on current practice in relation to credit, RPL and articulation from a range of tertiary providers.
