In each of the past two conferences, CCA’s evening entertainment has featured a noted Australian comic.
But this year’s conference in Brisbane is different: Mandy Nolan, whose writing was called (by The Sydney Morning Herald) “Australia’s wittiest comedic columnist”, will not only provide entertainment at the Conference Dinner on 19th November, she will lead a stand-up comedy workshop the next day – Wednesday 20th November. Limited to 15 lucky participants, applications for the workshop open one week before the Conference.
In the morning comedy workshop, Mandy presents the ultimate challenge: perform your own stand up comedy routine. Over the course of the morning, she will fast track you with exercises that show you how to reframe your experiences and use your personal narrative as comedy. At the end each of the participants will have a two minute comedy routine which can be performed in front of the whole conference – if you are brave enough!
Mandy’s workshops have been compared to the intellectual version of a parachute jump, with participants using humour overcome their anxieties around public speaking. Along with stand-up comedy techniques, Mandy also teaches you how to be a better communicator, presenter, and how to reframe daily challenges with humour.
About Mandy Nolan
Mandy Nolan is a Renaissance Woman. Not just a stand up comedian of 27 years. She is also a teacher and writer of comedy, a journalist, a painter and creator of a Commonwealth-funded humour therapy for people with dementia. Her humour is sharp, honest, sometimes self-depreciating, somewhat outrageous, but never cruel or pretentious. Frequently irreverent, it speaks to a diverse audience with no set demographic, no gender, race or religion, occupation or tribe.
Nolan is the author of four published memoirs. She’s also taught a stand up comedy class at Byron Community College for 22 years, with more than 1500 graduating students… the most well-known being Hannah Gadsby.
She’s also a mother of five and an ex-wife to many more.
Come to our conference to engage with someone who is truly one of Australia’s greatest comic treasures.
