Community Colleges Australia (CCA) has released a Statement on sustainability and climate change, which outlines CCA’s role as a peak organisation and encourages its members to embrace environmentally sustainable strategies.
The CCA Statement (PDF, 151kb) acknowledges that climate change is one of the Australia’s greatest environmental and social challenges, strongly supported by scientific consensus.
CCA actively supports the global response needed to address these challenges, and in particular Australia’s engagement with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, the Talloires Declaration of tertiary education leaders for sustainable futures, and the UNESCO programs for sustainability.
CCA has committed to demonstrating leadership in its own practice, and to acting as an advisor to its adult and community education (ACE) member organisations. CCA believes that ACE organisations have both the opportunity and a responsibility to demonstrate institutional practices that promote operational and educational sustainability and encourage problem-solving and innovation across their student cohorts and the communities they serve.
The Statement was approved by the CCA Board of Directors on 10 February 2020. Download a copy of the full Statement here.
