The Commonwealth Assistant Minister for Vocational Education, Training and Apprenticeships, The Hon Steve Irons MP, will be a special lunch-time guest at CCA’s Annual Conference in Brisbane on 19 November.
Assistant Minister Irons (pictured on right, along with CCA's CEO Dr Don Perlgut) will join a diverse national line-up of speakers, presenters and workshop leaders in Brisbane on 18, 19 and 20 November at Brisbane’s Stamford Plaza Hotel. (Download the latest conference program here.)
Assistant Minister Irons brings an unusual and relevant background to his portfolio. He completed an electrical apprenticeship, and worked as an electrician prior to moving into sales management and small business. He is a former AFL footballer and coach in Perth, where he represents the electorate of Swan. Growing up in a foster home, he describes himself as “Parliament’s only former ward of the state,” and has devoted much effort to working for the Forgotten Australians and former child migrants”, making him well respected by all parties for his bipartisan work on this social policy issue.
“Assistant Minister Irons brings a deeply grounded and personal approach to his VET and apprenticeships portfolio. When he spoke at the recent TAFE Directors Conference (read his conference speech here), he presented as unusually open and engaged, willing to listen to stakeholders,” said Dr Don Perlgut, CCA CEO.
“CCA is thrilled that Assistant Minister Irons will be joining us at lunchtime on Tuesday 19th November. This will give conference participants a unique opportunity to meet the Assistant Minister in person,” said Dr Perlgut.
