ACE Community Colleges Indigenous Driver Education Program took first prize in the Caltex Road Safety Awards, which were announced on 17 March 2016 in Melbourne.
The program is dedicated to helping Aboriginal people get a driving licence.
Since it started in 2005 the program has assisted young people, some Elders and community members of all ages from across Lismore (NSW) and the broader region to gain their licence and enhance their employability outcomes.
Students are supported by the program coordinator, receive access to PCs to practice for the NSW Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) Learner Driver Knowledge Test, attend several hours of individual driving instruction and have access to an ACE vehicle to complete the Driving Ability Road Test.
